To Stitch or to Throw out?

So, this piece is on my Up for a Challenge list. It is an OLD WIP that I started waaay back when I lived in my parents house, like probably about ten years ago! So, I thought I'd pull it out and finish it up for the challenge, but as I work on it, I keep thinking "Do I really even enjoy this piece anymore? What will I do with it once it's finished? It's not really my cup of tea anymore, plus this 14 count aida is driving me nuts! What was I thinking when I started this?!" Anyway, you get the point! But I have continued on with it for some reason. Mostly I have been working on the big bright green patch on the lower left side. That is ALOT of green, I don't think I will ever get it all in!!

Anyway, so I don't know what to do! I don't really just want to throw that much work away, but I don't want to throw my time and effort into something that will sit in a drawer and never see daylight, just so I can say I finished the thing.

Do other stitchers have this problem? Have you ever come across something in your WIP drawer/pile and think "UGH, WHAT was I thinking starting THIS?!"

I hate to say it but I think I have become a "linen snob". I look back at several pieces I have in my UFO box that are Aida and say the same thng...what ever made me start that ??? Some like yours that are 8-10 year old. I really don't think I will ever gat back to them when I have so much stash the is still enjoyable.

Here's my take on this. I have had the same problem and I have just given up and thrown it out. But I see you have so many followers, I wonder if someone would not like it for themselves. Maybe you can give it away to someone that would enjoy it more.

I have had that happen so I sent it to another stitchy friend who loved and finished it.

Don't stitch it if you don't want to!
I say offer it up to see if someone out there wants to finish it and if not then toss it.

All I work on in aida. I can't see to work on higher count fabric. Trying just doing one strand a day on it. Maybe it will grow on you.

Oh Lana, Please tell me how to draw a line thru something on my sidebar like you did with your wip list. Linda

Eek! I can't see throwing out an entire project. I know what you mean though - I have a few of those 'what was I thinking' starts in the bottom of my workbasket. But I tend to put them away. And I've found some later on and completely fallen in love with them again and been so glad that I saved them. Sometimes working on a piece and being so close to it for so long can make you sick of it too, and just putting it away to look at later with clear eyes can have a radical effect on how you feel.

But if you really can't stand it, and don't think that's going to change, then I agree with the suggestion of offering it to someone else. It might just be what they're looking for. And it is a shame to just throw out a started project - I imagine it'd get lonely in the landfill :( Much better to get it 'adopted' into a good home instead, right? :)

I have a couple of those.
I do pull out my Monopoly Gameboard, every so often to stitch on it.

Toss it! You will never like it if you ever finish it and won't enjoy working on it. I am also a linen snob!

I would have to agree with the people who suggested seeing if someone else would like to take the project off your hands. I have one WIP (on linen) and I know I will never finish it, it's more than halfway done but has more backstitching in it than you could ever imagine. But it is a piece that means something special to me so I keep it in a bag but know I will never throw it out (or finish it)

I can't bear to throw out something I've stitched on even if I know I'll never finish it. I have only 2 pieces that this has happened with but I eventually they'll have to go. I can't keep them forever!
